AWRA Alaska Meeting Field Trips

New methods and tools for estimating flood frequency statistics in Alaska

Techniques and equations for estimating flood frequency in Alaska have been updated in 2016! There are also new methods and tools for estimating flood frequency at gaged sites throughout the nation.

Instructor: Janet Curran, USGS Alaska Science Center, Anchorage, AK
April 24, 2016
Number of students: 5-35
Cost: $95/person (Register)

Note: This workshop is sponsored by the AWRA - Alaska Section. Please visit their registration page above to sign up for this trip. Thank you!

Background: The workshop will introduce concepts of frequency at gaged rivers and streams throughout the nation and provide hands-on training in methods for estimating flood frequency flows at gaged and ungaged streams in Alaska that are described in a new USGS report (Curran and others, 2016). Recently revised methods include EMA techniques for flood frequency analysis, which are replacing Bulletin 17B techniques, and new regional skew and regression equations for streams in Alaska and conterminous basins in Canada. Recently released tools include an updated version of PeakFQ, an application tool published with the new USGS report, and the new StreamStats application available for the Cook Inlet Basin.
