South Central Section - Brown Bag Meeting Schedule 2001-2002

This is a tentative list of winter speakers for AWRA, South-Central Section. Dates and locations vary and are subject to change for the 2002 talks, and we will make every attempt to keep you informed of any changes as they occur. We plan to send an email out the Monday prior to each talk, so if you have not been receiving emails and wish to, please contact William Rice at (907) 266-8883 or William.J.Rice@us.mwhglobal.com.
Brownbag talks are from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in Anchorage.

There is no November talks, but the December talk location is confirmed and the website will be updated shortly. Please distribute to all who you think may be interested in attending.

December 13, 2001. 2001 MOA Watershed Mapping Data Presentation
Presented by: Scott Wheaton, MOA and Mark Pearson, GeoNorth LLC

The Watershed Management Section (WMS) of MOA and GeoNorth, LLC will present 2001 efforts in updating municipal mapping data. New stream coverages, watershed boundaries, land cover, topography and other physical watershed features in GIS and other formats will be presented and discussed. Much of this data is new and is considerably more accurate than past information. Mapping and metadata will be distributed on CD for those interested in the updated information. See what WMS has been up to!

(Tudor to Bragaw, go south on Bragaw ? new building on the right, first floor as you walk in, walk to the hall near the stairs and follow the signs).

January 16, 2002. Water Quality Effects from Urbanization in Anchorage.
Bob Ourso, USGS, will give a talk on the results of water quality studies in Anchorage, in particular impervious area thresholds that appear to be significant to biota. Also, the talk will examine a new digital technique for analyzing streambed particle sizes using local data.

February 13, 2002. Stream Water Temperature Modeling for Cook Inlet and the Implications of Climate Change. Rebecca Kyle, who was an intern at the USGS, will present a water temperature model for streams around Cook Inlet.

March 20, 2002 (tentative). 2001/2002 Snow Season Rundown and Forecasts.
Rick McClure will give his annual rundown of the snow season, with snowmelt forecasts across Alaska.

April 8-10, 2002: 2002 Annual Meeting
